My Favourite Book Characters

Characters are really important in books, they carry the plot and when a reader connects with a character it can create a great relationship for years to come.

Like many readers, I have favourite characters but the list is ever changing and evolving so here’s the present list:

Matilda

‘Matilda’

by Roald Dahl, Quentin Blake (Illustrator)

Matilda is the ultimate book nerd and has produced many a bibliophile thanks to the amazing writing of Roald Dahl. She’s also incredibly smart and shows us that being intelligent AF is amazing! Plus, she has telekinetic powers and doesn’t kill Trunchbull Carrie style. I am not that good of a person.

Stop worrying about your identity and concern yourself with the people you care about, ideas that matter to you, beliefs you can stand by, tickets you can run on. Intelligent humans make those choices with their brai.png

Daenerys Targaryen

‘A Song of Ice and Fire Series’

by George R.R. Martin

Daenerys’ character arc is powerful and the strength she gains in the horrific world of Game of Thrones is incredible. Plus Dragons, speeches of badassness and that hair is flawless.

Molly Weasley

‘Harry Potter Series’

by J.K. Rowling

Mama Weasley is the ultimate badass women. She is kind but firm with her kids and welcomes all into her home and family. She gives Harry the maternal love he needed. Plus she kills Bellatrix Lestrange like a boss!

Violet Baudelaire

‘A Series of Unfortunate Events Series’

by Lemony Snicket

Another genius women who smashes gender roles and invents amazing things. She goes through a lot and continues to fight for her family against the villain hell bent on destroying them.

Wonder Women aka Princess Diana of Themyscira aka Diana Prince

DC Comics

The most recognisable female superhero not based on a male counterpart. Diana has been a symbol of female empowerment and strength for decades. She is a well-rounded Hero with an extensive and interesting origin story.

Barbra Gordan aka Batgirl aka Oracle

DC Comics

Babs has gone through A LOT. But, she’s still my favourite hero. She’s  smart (we may have a trend here); highly trained in numerous fighting styles; a complete whiz kid with computers and always keeps the boys of the Bat Family on their toes. She’s been a representative of disability and LGBTQ characters. There are so many versions of Batgirl it would take a whole post to explain why I love each one of them so, just trust me. She’s Kickass.

What are your favourite characters?

Thanks for reading,
